In The Silence of the Night - Gone Too Soon
63
In the silence of the night
In the shadows of the dark, the silence of the night,
So deep in my soul and embedded in my mind
Memories laying dormant, awaken bringing light
Thoughts of a love, a love left long behind
A love so utterly pure, but never had a chance to last
It was so sweet and tender, so true, and so whole
Lord you took it from me, banished to my past
But memories still linger, in my heart and in my soul
Life goes on from hour to day, from day to year
And no one knows of the grief here within my heart
For the one that I cherished and held most dear
Oh Lord, tell me why did you have to tear us apart
I still feel the pain, the anguish and the sorrow
Remembering your face and your tender touch
The kisses, the dreams and promises for tomorrow
But tomorrow never came for the one I loved so much
And now its almost morning, beginning of another day
When the shadows of the dark, meet the morning light
Time to say goodbye my love, put my memories away
Until you come to me again in the silence of the night.

I remember there use to be a t.v. series and in it was this statement. "There are a 1000 stories in this Naked City" well this is one of many. I don't think there is any sadder tale than the loss of LOVE either by death or by departure by choice to another partner. I feel you pain, it's not a good feeling at all, emptiness and loss. I hope you've found the LOVE of your life once more and your both soul mates now.
The emotion in this poem is dauntingly beautiful.
I'm sorry to hear of your loss. This person must have meant a great deal to you.
Hi Rosemay, what a tragedy a young man taken by a drunk driver and the sadness of it is so evident in these words, it's a beautiful poem thank you for sharing it. I am so pleased to see you have found such happiness with your soulmate, my best wishes to you both.

......because I am a big fan of all musical genres - I read this with imaginary music in the background - could be the blues - or country 'n western music - with a voice like Etta James, Timi Yuro, George Jones or Frank Sinatra ....... great writing can transcend any genre, really.

....and 'evocative' writing like this is universal - everyone all over the world has gone through something like this - ah, the solidarity of human emotions ....
